Oxaquim is currently in the midst of what is already one of its most active and ambitious phases of international expansion in recent years.

The company, Europe’s leading producer of oxalic acid and the second-largest globally, has recently reached significant agreements with leading multinational companies specializing in the production of rare earth elements.
As Marc and Daniel Miquel, Oxaquim’s CEOs, explain, “several of these companies are based in the United States, as well as in Canada and Australia, and are all publicly traded. Furthermore, they have received government funding from their respective states due to the strategic importance of their production at the geopolitical level.”
Oxaquim thus becomes a key player on the international stage regarding the supply of oxalic acid, thanks to the signing of these long-term contracts.
It is worth noting that this chemical is used, among other applications, to purify rare earths, which are vital for ensuring the development and competitiveness of industries linked to electric mobility, sustainability, digitalization, robotics, communications, and defense.
“These rare earth producers have turned to Oxaquim to bypass Chinese supply chains and thus ensure the security of their respective governments and customers. Our production capacity and quality have established us as the strategic supplier of oxalic acid outside of China.”

“Securing these commercial agreements in various parts of the world has been made possible by the strong pace of investment we are driving in Alcañiz,” company executives note.

Oxaquim operates its production hub in Teruel, Spain, where an investment valued at 20 million euros is underway, creating 40 new jobs.

The first phase of the project involved expanding the plant’s floor space by 5,000 square meters, with the goal of increasing production by 50 percent by December of this year. The second phase of the investment will be completed by the end of 2028, which will allow for a further 50 percent increase in production.

“Once these investments in Alcañiz are complete, we will explore the possibility of continuing to grow and even building a factory in the United States,”the Miquel brothers said.

Oxaquim exports 90 percent of its production to 85 countries around the world, supplies more than 16 industrial sectors, has annual revenue of 25 million euros, and employs 50 people.

It has invested over 95 million euros in R&D and technology, making Oxaquim the cleanest and most efficient oxalic acid manufacturer in the world.
